If I turn the volume up on my receiver past 1/3 of the way up, I get massive 60hz feedback. Tried unplugging the laptop, and there is no hum when using it with my phone.

FWIW, here is the signal chain

Laptop headphone out->3.5mm to RCA adapter cable->CD input on surround sound receiver

its a ground loop. Buy an isolator. First unplug laptop power and run on batteries to confirm it goes away.

I tried, and I should have probably mentioned that my receiver doesn't have a ground plug. Just started doing this the other day, too.

I mean on the laptop power supply. Try a grounded power strip.

I thought you might want to know I have it fixed. Laptop mic was feeding back, so I have that disabled.
